Autumn

Throws, cushions, bed linen, curtains and warm colours: discover our ideas for bringing autumn into your home and creating a truly cosy retreat.

As the days grow shorter and the air gets cooler, it is natural to want a home that feels more comforting. The good news is that successful autumn décor does not require changing everything. A few textiles, a coherent colour palette and a mix of textures are enough to shift the atmosphere.

At home, the real sign that autumn is back is Anna reaching for the sofa throw again at the end of the day. She settles under it to draw, watch a cartoon or simply stay close to us. That little habit sums up what we look for in a home at this time of year: more softness, without losing the practical side of everyday life.

Which colours work well for autumn décor?

The easiest shades to introduce are those inspired by nature: terracotta, rust, caramel, olive, eucalyptus, brown, burgundy, sand and natural beige. If your interior is already neutral, choose one main warm shade and one softer supporting tone.

For example, pair a beige sofa with a rust-coloured throw and two cushions in natural shades. In a white bedroom, deep green or terracotta bed linen can be enough to bring in the season without making the room feel heavy.

The throw: the first cosy gesture

A throw is probably the easiest textile to add in autumn. It visually warms the sofa, adds texture and remains useful every day. On an armchair, at the foot of the bed or in a basket near the sofa, it immediately creates the feeling of comfort we look for when temperatures start to fall.

For the season, we favour pieces that are easy to combine and genuinely pleasant to use every day.

Add cushions without overloading the sofa

Cushions are perfect for introducing a new colour or pattern without transforming the whole room. Two or three are enough. Mix one stronger piece with one or two plain or natural shades, and vary the sizes slightly so the arrangement does not feel too rigid.

A warmer bedroom for autumn

Autumn is also a good time to rethink your bed linen. A pleasant duvet cover, soft pillowcases and a throw at the foot of the bed instantly make you want to slow down.

Mamimosa always recommends choosing a fabric with both feel and care in mind. Beautiful bed linen should stay easy to live with. Before first use, she also recommends an initial wash following the care label: it helps the fabric settle and removes any residues linked to storage or packaging.

Curtains and light: the detail that changes the atmosphere

In autumn, natural light becomes softer. Curtains then play an important role: they frame the window, make the room feel more intimate and can strengthen the visual feeling of warmth.

Cotton velvet curtains create a more enveloping atmosphere. Linen or cotton keeps things lighter. And if you also want to reduce the feeling of cold near windows, consider thicker or blackout styles.

How can you decorate for autumn without buying everything again?

  • Keep the main elements neutral and work with textiles.
  • Choose no more than two or three colours to avoid a catalogue effect.
  • Move cushions and throws from one room to another before buying more.
  • Mix textures rather than piling up patterns.
  • Choose pieces you will still enjoy using in winter.

What atmosphere should you create in the living room?

Start with the sofa, then look at the room as a whole. A throw, two cushions and softer lighting are often enough. Add only what is genuinely missing. At Anna & Moi, we prefer a warm, lived-in home to a space that looks too perfect to use.

If you enjoy extending the seasonal mood, you can then evolve this base towards Halloween, and later towards a warm Christmas home, without starting from scratch.
