Cocooning atmosphere

“Your home should be your cocoon, a place where you feel safe and where you can flourish.

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, finding a moment of calm and relaxation at home, conducive to cocooning, can seem a daunting challenge. Juggling a career in the making, family commitments, a sports routine and the unforeseen events of everyday life leaves little room for rest. But it’s essential to take time out to recharge your batteries.

Even though I’m an active and very organised student, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by stress. I used to live with my brother Jonathan, Anna’s dad. We managed to create a cocooning atmosphere in our house, even though it was often the scene of incessant activity.

Here are my 5 tips for achieving this:

Creating relaxation areas dedicated to Cocooning

Even with our busy schedules and hectic evenings, it’s essential to dedicate specific spaces to relaxation. In our small flat, we created a cocooning reading corner. It was made up of soft cushions and super-soft plaids. We even had a games corner, which was just as soothing. It’s our hideaway, where we can escape for a few moments, or even a few hours, from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and get a good night’s rest.

Opt for soothing colours

Like many men, we’re used to rather dark colours. Although they go everywhere, they’re not the best colours for a good mood and relaxation. So we opted for soothing tones in our decor, like shades of light blue and pastel green. These colours have a calming effect on us after a busy day. They contrast perfectly with the visual pollution of everyday life, such as advertising, television and screens of all kinds. It’s simple but impressive how a few splashes of colour can transform the overall mood of our living space. And even help us to relax more easily.

Introducing natural elements for comfort

There’s nothing like natural elements to create a soothing atmosphere. We’ve added green plants to our living room and kitchen. Not only for their aesthetic appeal, but also to purify the air and add a touch of soothing greenery. Natural materials such as wood and stone can also help to create a more serene, cocooning atmosphere.

Introducing family relaxation rituals

Even with an energetic little girl, it’s essential to find some quiet time together as a family. During my last holiday, I saw that they had introduced a calm evening ritual. A reading session before bedtime or some soft music are much appreciated. This allows Anna to relax and all of us to refocus and enjoy a moment of cocooning as a family.

Prioritising personal well-being: your cocooning moment

Finally, it’s crucial to make time for yourself. Despite our busy schedules, my brother and I take time for ourselves. This helps us to stay calm and centred, even at the most hectic times.

Creating a cocooning atmosphere at home can seem a daunting challenge. But with a little creativity and organisation, you can transform your flat or house into a haven of peace. These are just a few of the simple tips we’ve put in place to help us find ourselves again.
They allow us to relax even in the midst of the daily hustle and bustle.
